It was founded by Dan Ombok and Allan Korir in the year 2016, as an initiative of the Dance for Charity Foundation.
Since its inception, The Nairobi Dance Project has cultivated and nurtured a community of professional dance instructors, performers, competitors, students and AfroLatin music and dance enthusiasts across Africa, by providing opportunities for training, performance and collaboration.
As part of its creative activities since its founding, The Nairobi Dance Project has created, produced and toured locally and internationally with its own performances and workshops, as well as commissioned works for dance companies, universities, international dance institutions and dance schools. Moreover, The Nairobi Dance Project is the organizing company of the annual Kizomba Sensação Festival, which is not only the first festival of its kind in Nairobi but the first purely Kizomba festival in Africa.
